Venezia!
Returned from a day’s trip to Venice.
A nice place indeed and worth a visit. Of course, it’s not possible to cover all the places in 1 day. But, that was all I could afford.
The city is incredible! Its’ flooded. And I wonder how the the people survive in day to day affairs. Not a single vehicle to be seen, as there isn’t any road at the first place! All you can see is Big Canals, medium sized canals and small narrow canals, and accordingly big boats and smaller boats. Every house/hotel/office (or any place for that matter) opens directly to one or the other canal. They have thick wood logs planted everywhere to park their boats. The only mean of transport is of course by boats. I am really surprised how they deal with basic necessities such as telephone, internet service, drinking water supply, electricity and postal service etc. Its really freaky!
The city was crowded heavily. Mostly with tourists for obvious reasons. We started with the pretty well known place called San Marco. This is the place which shows up in the first scenes of the movie ‘The Italian Job‘. Roamed around here and there. Saw some Churches, old buildings, Opera Theaters and local markets. Tried authentic Italian Pizza, which was good! Took a boat to the adjoining islands Murano and the Lido. Murano has got a number of glass factories and stores selling colorful glass artifacts. And Lido has got a beach, and moreover it has roads! There are plenty of Ice Cream shops in Venice selling ‘homemade’ (which they claim) ice creams. We tried a few flavors too.
Love birds romancing is not a rare site. Mostly they take the Gondolas and float along some of the narrow channels in the city and enjoy the peaceful surroundings there away from the crowd. I guess murdering or committing suicide wont be much difficult there. Just tie one up and throw him into tha canal and work is done. And canals are everywhere! After all, all you have there is water!
Here and here are some of the pics.
