Good old days
I am not a regular TV viewer except for news and occasional cricket. In fact, I don’t find anything else interesting or useful to watch. May be the society gradually moved forward from plain and simple Doordarshan programs to new-age sensational and vulgar reality shows and I was left behind! Or probably I have just grown old to enjoy these sorts of shows.
But I used to be a regular viewer (when I was a kid!). And now, when I occasionally stumble across those programs of DD National on web, it makes me feel nostalgic, and crave for those good old days. How wonderful those shows used to be! Plain, simple yet elegant. They used to touch the life of a common man. And the most beautiful thing about them was you could watch them along with your family without getting embarrassed due to some ‘scenes’.
My general knowledge on today’s TV programs is not very updated. It has been more than a year since I saw something on TV. And the schedule used to be filled with different sorts of soap operas and reality shows, unrealistic, meaningless and vulgar. People still like them. That’s crazy! Particularly those reality shows like Emotional Atyachaar, Splitsvilla, Roadies, Big Boss, Date Trap etc. where the contestants abuse each other, mingle in explicit acts on camera, fight with others voraciously, seduce other contestants and so on. I don’t understand whats there to enjoy in it? You like to hear some abuses? As if you haven’t heard any abuse in life. Go to any place in Delhi/Punjab and your hunger for all sorts of abuse will be satisfied!
Anyways, thanks to YouTube and the Web in general, that some of those programs from good old Doordarshan days are still available to me
(e.g. Byomkesh Bakshi, Tehkikat, Mahabharat, Chanakya, Tenali Rama etc. ). Wish I could get more of those!
